Lines are open for you to cast your vote for the individual who will be representing South Africa at this year's Mr Gay World competition in Cape Town!

Our own Kevin du Plessis is also a finalist, hoping to further his work as a journalist and Art Director working in queer media.

“I spend most days of my life putting everything into this publication that I possibly can. I am constantly looking to celebrate queer creatives in South Africa and internationally, I write about issues that stare our community in the face hoping to open dialogue and insight, and I am always out and about looking for new stories about inspiring gay people as well as finding new voices to use Gay Pages as a platform to share their perspectives,” Kevin said.

Kevin has been working at the magazine for well over two years and is always on a mission to create original content, be it in the form of fashion shoots or offering exposure to gay artists. He has also been penning his own coming out story in the form of a novel, as he revealed in our Spring 2018 edition when he appeared on the cover after winning the title of Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa at the 2018 Pink Loerie festival. He spends his personal time on the gay social scene interacting with members of the community and just having fun. He also makes gay-centric artwork in the form of illustrations and photography, as some of you may have witnessed at the Pretoria Pride art exhibition last year in October.

“Casting a vote for me, means that you support me as an individual trying to make a difference in the South African gay community that I so love. This competition has the power to take the work I do to the next level and to a bigger audience. I just hate the fact that I spent 23 years of my life ashamed of who I was, and I want to prevent that from happening to any queer kids out there as much as I can. Gay Pages has allowed me to be part of something bigger than myself!”

Press Release from the Mr Gay World SA team:
