In celebration of Converse’s annual PRIDE collection, contributions are supporting longstanding US and global LGBTQ+ partners, including It Gets Better Project and OUT MetroWest.
Among the spokespeople for Converse’s new Pride range is trans veteran Kristin Beck, a navy seal turned trans activist whose memoir and advocacy has challenged the military’s attitude towards gender and sexuality, and 11-year-old drag queen Desmond is Amazing (read our full interview with Desmond in the upcoming Winter 2019 edition!). On the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, these ultra colourful and diverse range of shoes are ready to spread love all around the world!
Paper mag reports:
“To celebrate the historic anniversary and Pride 2019 in general, Converse debuts a new collection of ‘glitter-dipped,’ ‘parade-worthy’ sneakers, including a trans flag design, as well as a few different plays on the iconic LGBTQ rainbow. The capsule pays homage to glam rock with glitter and lightening bolts. Instead of It-girl models, the brand tapped a group of the people their collection will celebrate: queer artists, activists, athletes and writers who have broken the rules, as well as regular people who are trying the make the world a better place.”
Other spokespeople include Ayishat Ankanbi, a British DJ, writer and cultural thinker, Fran Tirado deputy editor of OUT Magazine and host of Food 4 Thot, a queer brown podcast, and student activist Felix whom Converse discovered at OUT MetroWest in the US.
The range is called #YesToAll, which we think is rather self-explanatory! Here is vlogger Nick Hathy’s review:
