With Russell Tovey and Arinze Kene. Directed by Ben A Williams. 2016
A member of a theatre production made history last year by passing out when Russell Tovey took off his shirt on stage. He may suffer more severe damage in The Pass in which Tovey wears nothing more than skimpy underpants in the first act. He plays the part of a closeted gay football player who makes a pass at a gay team mate in a hotel room in Romania. The play centers round Tovey’s character’s struggle with his sexuality. Based on a stage play, this film tends to become an exhausting battle of words and issues repeated ad infinitum long after a point has been made. The film might only find its audience because of the frequent nudity and strong, brutal sexuality of its two male stars. Average.
