The Grande Roche has consistently maintained pleasingly high standards for many years and Viande is surely the hotel’s crowning glory.
With Pete Goffe-Wood as chef patron, diners are assured of a superb food experience. The country-style food is true nose-to-tail cooking. Nothing is wasted.
When the steaming vetkoek and mini loaves arrive at your dinner table, you know this is going to be an experience you’d want to repeat. Start with chicken liver parfait served with brioche and pickles, or roasted bone marrow with sourdough toast. Then on to mains where the caramelised butternut and goat’s cheese rolled in thin pasta sheets will delight any non-meat eater. Slow roasted pork belly with maple syrup and pan-fried line fish with capers are highly recommended. Do leave some room for dessert – you won’t be disappointed! The warm lemon curd cake with crème fraîche is a standout winner.
Arrive early to appreciate the exquisite setting and fine interior design. Pop into the cocktail bar either for pre- or post- dinner drinks. It goes without saying that the wine list is exceptional.
