ÉPICURE BY CHEF COCO | Morningside, JohannesburgAugust 10, 2018
LE COIN FRANÇAIS | FranschhoekAugust 10, 2018
Food legend Daniel Leusch has handed the reigns of this iconic eatery to his daughter, Anne, who is proudly following in her father’s footsteps.
This is some of the most sublime French-influenced cooking you’ll find anywhere in SA, and at pocket-friendly prices to boot.
Food at La Madeleine is all about the joy of cooking and eating. Ingredients are sourced fresh daily, so be prepared to be surprised when you turn up for your booking. Each day’s menu consists of about six starters, six main courses and a couple of desserts. The pre-dessert cheese board is a delight of rare and interesting cheeses, so don’t skip it. Two house favourites are the braised pork cheeks and gossamer light the crème brûlée, but pretty much everything else changes daily. This is the type of establishment where you can safely leave everything up to the chef. The wine list is a marriage of local and French vintages, and prices can be a bit steep, but there is enough on offer for those on a more modest budget.
