In 1978, in a registered historical monument building, Arthur Augoustatos opened the landmark and legendary Coachman. Five years later George and Dawn Castis bought the Coachman.
The Castis family still run the business, and the jewel in their crown is this, their second restaurant. Stunning views over the bay, contemporary design and excellent food and attractive staff combine to create one of the best dining experiences in Port Elizabeth. The vibe is upmarket casual and the balcony is usually filled with groups of friends and families enjoying good food, good company and fantastic ocean views.
The Coachman on the Bay is also popular among the local gay community. Distinctive and delicious sauces, secret marinades, juicy steaks, Greek dishes and excellent quality fish keep diners coming back for more, as much as the large portions do. Lamb shanks, spare ribs, seafood pasta and the ever popular fillet and prawn combo are highly recommended. Of course, any meal needs a sweet ending and here the baklava is the perfect choice.
