Ever since my first car a Citroën I had a soft spot for this brand that embodies individuality more than any other.
The C 5 Aircross Shine has a massive sunroof that feels more like a glass roof, which creates a stunning interior ambiance.
Remarkable ground clearance of 230mm, heaps of personality and strong style statements with brightly coloured lower door and wheel arch protectors and roof bars, ensure that it stands out next to any competitor.
The vivacious styling carries follows through with split headlights squint from a widescreen grille and black A-, B- and C- pillars are designed to create the effect of wraparound glazing that emphasises a wider, yet sleeker look.
As expected, comfort is the signature quality and a Progressive Hydraulic Cushions® suspension ensure a hover craft like drive or call it a magic carpet ride if you prefer! Due to highly advanced soundproofing which reduces road noise and wind noise thanks to double-glazed laminated front windows with an insulated layer, you enjoy cocoon-like silence in this well-built sturdy car.
Unrivalled modularity offers three individual sliding, folding and reclining rear seats, and best-in-class boot space. There’s space inside for five, with the variable boot size thanks to the three, individual sliding/reclining seats in the rear, which is remarkably practical, with plenty of cubby holes and stowage spaces around the cabin.
Many driver assistance systems as well as a whole raft of safety systems makes and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel with an 8-inch touchscreen on the dashboard helps to ensure an instantaneous bonding exercise.
It has a commanding view from the colourful and cosy cabin, yet it is easy to enter and feels deceptively shorter than 4,5m long with its flowing shape. It is one of the most cleverly designed cars in its category with seats that fold down to provide a perfectly flat floor with a dual-level boot floor and large storage area at the front of the central console, equipped for wireless smartphone charging.
The suspension is what makes this car so special where two hydraulic stops on either side, slow down movement to avoid sudden jolts and 20 patents have been taken out on the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions system.
A high-performance 1.6 THP 121kW petrol engine is coupled to Citroën’s EAT6 automatic gearbox and delivers good economy and effortless responsiveness.

Make sure you test drive one when you start shopping, as I doubt if many cars under a million rand could match the supreme driving comfort.
