High Court has declared Yona, the son of the Delgado-Lühl family, a Namibian citizenship by descent.
The court directed Min Home Affairs to issue a certificate of citizenship in 30 days & dismissed home affairs requirement of a DNA test. Democracy wins
With regards to the High Court judgement today on the case of Yona’s citizenship, I would like to comment.
Critical gaps exists in the implementation of the Namibian Constitution and it’s a sad day when private citizens is expected to initiate the debate.
It is with great pride in our judicial system that I have received the incredible news today.
The fight for equal rights is not over, but the outcome of this case is a significant step in the right direction.
Eventually Namibians will be able to stand with pride and say “Our country is moving in the right direction”
We would like to thank the incredible work done by their legal team as well as Omar from “Equal Namibia”
