DURBAN – ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal says the eThekwini Mayor is misleading the public on the status of its beaches.
Party chair Zwakele Mncwango inspected work being done at the Ohlange pump station which pumps water into the beach.
Mncwango says this is a health hazard and people’s lives have been put at risk.
“The sewage is spilling into the river. There’s no way one can say the beach is safe,” he said.
“I don’t know why the mayor would mislead the public, it will never be ready by the first of December. There is work being done but it will not be ready.
“Why is the mayor prepared to risk our people? This is a serious health hazard. There’s no way this beach can be safe in these holidays.”
