“I felt I needed to tell you…”

Man shares the message he received from his childhood bully 20 years later.

A man who was harassed at school and taunted as gay has spoken out about a surprise message he received 20 years later.

Misha Brown, 37, is an influencer and podcaster with a huge social media following. We’ve featured him on Queerty in the past, when he spoke about recovery from alcoholism.

In a recent video, Brown shared a message he received from a former childhood bully.

Brown grew up in Western New York. He tells People that he was an expressive child who loved to sing Whitney Houston songs and play Polly Pockets. This led to bullying that blighted his adolescence.

The person who used to bully him sent a message recently saying, “Hey man, I just felt like I needed to tell you, I’m sorry I was a damn jerk back in school. Really, I’m sorry. But I’ve been following what you’ve done lately and it’s really cool. I’m proud of you. You’re, like, really helping people.

“The reason I wanted to tell you all this is that I’ve got a son now. He’s 15 and he told me he’s gay. Man, all I thought about when he told me that was I hope people are nicer to him than I was to you. It makes me feel proud to be his dad, and hopefully that makes up for something.”

“Keep it up, dude.”

Brown said that he did feel the man’s support of his gay son “makes up” for something and told the man as much. Teary-eyed, Brown was blown away by the message.

“Guess people can change,” he concluded.
