Netherlands elected a young, gay PM and the thirst is real

The Netherlands has voted to elect its youngest and first out gay Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, in a historic win against a far-right opponent.

Jetten has declared victory after a tense election this week in which his centre-left D66 party gained at least 17 seats, while far-right nightmare Geert Wilders’ party lost 11.

Per BBC News, D66 is on track to form the next coalition government, with the 38-year-old heartthrob set to be the Netherlands’ youngest and first out gay Prime Minister.

“I am incredibly happy [we] have become the biggest party in this election,” Jetten said.

“A historic result for the D66. At the same time, I feel a great responsibility.

“I think we’ve now shown to the rest of Europe and the world that it’s possible to beat the populist movements if you campaign with a positive message for your country.”

Rob Jetten is engaged to an Olympian

Rob Jetten is engaged to his fiancé, hockey player and two-time Olympian Nico Keenan. Keenan gave his beau plenty of support on election night, posting photos and TikTok videos of the couple preparing for the big evening.

In one TikTok, set to RAYE’s Where the Hell Is My Husband?, Keenan and Jetten showed off their suits.

People in the comments were swooning, with some writing that the political power couple were giving Red, White and Royal Blue vibes.

“Hollands first first gentleman,” one person wrote.
