Netflix caves to Trump?

Boots axed after Pentagon called it “woke garbage” & fans are crying foul.

Both Variety and Deadline report that Netflix will not be commissioning a second season of its critically-acclaimed dramedy, Boots.

The news comes as a great disappointment to fans of the show, which followed a closeted teen who enrolled with his best buddy in the Marine Corps in 1990. It was based on a memoir of a real-life veteran named Greg Cope White. Miles Heizer played the lead role of Cameron Cope.

Boots hit the streamer at the start of October. It rose to number two on the weekly Netflix rankings and stayed in the top ten for a month. Boots currently enjoys a 90% critics rating and 90% audience reaction on the aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes.

It was also the last show from legendary producer Norman Lear, made in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television.

According to Deadline, in August, Sony TV extended the options on several key cast members, suggesting a second season was certainly being considered.

The show also prompted a lot of online debate, especially after a spokesperson for the Pentagon issued a statement dismissing it as “woke garbage.”

Cast members react

A couple of cast members shared news of the show’s cancellation on their Instagram stories.

Angus O’Brien revealed he began filming the show newly sober. He said, “All I can say right now is thank you to the entire cast and crew for filling my days with so much love and care and support throughout this entire journey from day 1 … you helped me believe in myself.”
