Did you see any of these ‘Unsung LGBTQ films?

Awards season is upon us. One of the nominee lists we look forward to most is the one from GALECA, The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. As its name suggests, not only do its ‘Dorians’ celebrate mainstream movies, but they also highlight queer gems, some of which may have skipped your radar. It’s a great way to add some titles to your streaming list.
GALECA also offers a few quirky categories, such as ‘Campiest Flick’ – something sorely missing from the Oscars and Golden Globes!
GALECA has just released its nominees for its 2026 Dorian Awards. The winners will be announced on March 3rd at GALECA’s first in-person awards event since 2020.
As for those ‘Unsung’ LGBTQ movies, the five that GALECA has chosen as ‘exceptional LGBTQ-themed movies worthy of greater attention’ were as follows.
- A Nice Indian Boy (Blue Harbor Entertainment)
- Kiss of the Spider Woman (Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions, LD Entertainment)
- Peter Hujar’s Day (Janus)
- Plainclothes (Magnolia)
- The Wedding Banquet (Bleecker Street)
For LGBTQ Film of the Year, the nominees are:
- Blue Moon (Sony Pictures Classics)
- Hedda (Amazon MGM Studios)
- Pillion (A24)
- Sorry, Baby (A24)
- Twinless (Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions)
And for ‘Campiest Flick’, the nominees are:
- Final Destination: Bloodlines (Warner Bros.)
- Kiss of the Spider Woman (Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions, LD Entertainment)
- The Housemaid (Lionsgate)
- Weapons (Warner Bros.)
- Wicked: For Good (Universal)
In the mainstream categories, the films grabbing the most nominations are Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another (nine nominations), Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (eight nominations), and Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme (five).
Besides the nominees revealed this week, a special Timeless Star career achievement honor will be announced on the day of the awards themselves.
