Have you found The One?

Gay men share the moment they realized their other half was a “keeper”.

By David Hudson

A thread on Threads has prompted hundreds of comments and highlighted some beautiful queer love stories.

We hear so much about how hard it is to find love, or about being ghosted on apps, that it makes a refreshing change to hear about the moments Cupid’s arrow struck.

“Gays in long-term relationships, when did you know he was a keeper? 👬” asked by relationship coach Ed Bell, @bettergaydating.

The replies came flooding in.

“Before I met him ☺️,” said one man. “First date cemented my feelings. Sadly lost him last year, his entry music to his funeral was ‘I knew I loved you before I met you’ Savage Garden 😔 but I had him for 25 beautiful years 🏳️‍🌈”.

“Perhaps, second date?” said another. “I remember the first day I met him, I thought, ‘I can give this a try’. On the second date, I saw him standing in front of a cafe smiling and waving, I knew then, ‘I want to protect him’.”

A third said he, “Was pretty sure on our first official date, when we both showed up a half-hour early. That was 32 years ago.”

Shared passions

One man recalled bonding over a shared passion.

“Before we officially started dating,” recalled one gentleman. “I asked him, ‘IF we were dating, tell me something important I’d need to know about you.. IF we were dating.’ He replied , ‘You’d have to know that Christmas is a VERY big deal for me’… sir! I have been known as ‘Mr Christmas’ since I was a teenager! Forget ‘dating’ Put that ring on my finger right this minute!!”

Many shared photos alongside their stories.
