A single front mounted electric motor produces 55kW and 135Nm of torque. Modest numbers but instant torque creates a comfortable city car with quick 0-60km/h acceleration. Top speed of 135km/h is adequate bearing in mind speed limits.
The key differentiator between the entry-level model and the Dynamic lies in the battery. In real-world South African conditions, expect less in highway driving or heavy air-conditioning use. Most drivers will comfortably manage several days of city travel between charges.
Charging is competitive for the segment and can recharge from 30%TO 80% 30 minutes. BYD offers reputable BLADE Battery technology in terms of thermal safety and longevity. Soft steering is soft but accurate, and the low centre of gravity (thanks to the battery placement) gives the car a planted feel through corners. A notable benefit is the availability of one pedal driving to modulate speed using the accelerator alone in many situations. This not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to a more relaxed driving experience in traffic.
Safety is a strong point with 5-Star Euro NCAP RATING.
At under R400 000, it is probably South Africa’s best priced EV which wides the appeal of EV’s considerably with lower running costs, greater refinement in urban driving and more advanced technology
