Dig out your rainbow flags and grab your glitter: Pride In London has announced its grand return this year!

The annual LGBTQ festival usually takes place in June, but in March 2020 it was announced the event would be postponed, only to be ultimately cancelled.

Today, however, organisers confirmed a 2021 return – albeit later in the year than party-goers are used to.

“WE’RE BACK”

“We’ve got that #FridayFeeling AND the news you’ve all been waiting for… WE’RE BACK,” said a rep for the festival on Twitter.

“Pride in London will return on the weekend of 11th Sept 2021 – stay tuned for more details on what the event will look like and how to get involved.

“We CANNOT wait to see you all!”

The announcement follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently revealing a ‘road map’ to end coronavirus lockdown restrictions in England by 21 June.

Alison Camps, Co-Chairs of Pride in London, told Attitude: “We’re all too aware of the impact of the pandemic in our communities, and so are delighted to be able to bring Pride back in 2021. There’s a lot of work to be done between now and September but we’re excited at the thought of all our communities coming together to remember our history, celebrate our successes and demand the recognition, rights and respect that all LBGT+ people deserve.”

Camps, in a joint statement with Michael Salter-Church MBE, added: “Now we have the roadmap from the Government, we’re working closely with the Mayor’s office, Westminster City Council and other key bodies in London to finalise what our plans will look like. We’ll be announcing further details of the event, including what format it will take and how to participate or volunteer, in due course. We will continue to monitor and adhere to the necessary health guidance.

“Naturally we can’t wait to bring all of our wonderful communities together again and stand with them to champion LGBT+ rights across the capital and beyond. In addition to the plans for September, we’re working on a way to appropriately mark Pride’s traditional anniversary in the summer. In the meantime, our communities have their final chance today to complete our short consultation survey and let us know what they’d like to see from Pride in London this year.”

It is unclear how the event will be adapted because of the virus, with the likes of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras’ main event shifting to a static ticketed celebration on 6 March.

Today, Manchester Pride also announced it will be returning for 2021. The LGBTQ extravaganza will take place from 27-30 August.

Birmingham Pride has also announced plans ro return on the weekend of 25 and 26 September.
