Since 1919, Citroën has been a bold innovative brand, that brought cars to us with incredible personality – many are sought-after collectible cars.
Road Tests By Rubin van Niekerk
My first car was a Citroën and the love affair with this brand continues. It offers a wide range of models from the distinctive Ami – an electric vehicle, to saloons, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, most of which are available in electric or rechargeable plug-in versions.
Naturally we adored the funky C3 which combines all the attributes people expect in this segment. A perfect blend of comfort, affordability, unique features, and style. This gem won the 2023 World Urban Car award at the 19th World Car Awards and has 180mm ground clearance which is enormous for its class. A specially tuned steering and tiny turning circle ensures agility in heavy urban traffic as well as helping with safer and more responsive cornering on twisty roads, with minimal body roll which smooths out roughness and ruts.
Gorgeous ambience welcomes you as you get into the comfortable and roomy C3, so every occupant experiences an enhanced sense of well-being, regardless of where they sit, with fully adjustable seating with comfortable high-density foam embodying the Citroën Advanced Comfort, intelligent packaging with plenty of stowage space. Elevated ride height and large window areas provide brightness and all-round visibility.
Trim options available to South African customers include dual-tone options on the dashboard, matching the dual-tone roof options available externally. Inserts on the door armrests and the IP pencil tray with coloured stitching on the seats boosts the high-quality feel of the cabin.
An easy-to-use 10-inch (26cm) touchscreen, the largest in any hatch and the heart of the infotainment system, works well with smart phones. The driver gets a 7-inch (17,8cm), colour TFT cluster screen with up to 6 modes for displaying vehicle information, like fuel consumption and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Settings and colour schemes can be configured as you wish. Passengers can play games whilst listening to their favourite music or catch up with social media thanks to quick-charging USB sockets.
A 1,2-litre naturally aspirated engine offers 61kW and 115Nm of torque and superb fuel consumption of 5,9 litres/100km. I don’t think any competitor matches its abundant personality and superb qualities that incorporates so much practicality. Aesthetically it towers over many more expensive cars.
Pricing of only R229 000 includes a 2-year/30 000km Service Plan.
