I went to the first launch of the Everest a few years ago in Arniston we were impressed with this new model in South Africa. However, the current model has made so many improvements since then that it is a delight. The compelling Bi-Turbo XLT 4×4 10AT is an interesting addition to the midsize SUV market, dominated by the Toyota Fortuner. This Ford offers a blend of rugged off-road capability, sophisticated design, and advanced technology.
Having power, versatility, 4×4 capability, and a well-appointed interior, it aims to cater to both adventure seekers and urban commuters alike. Bold styling like the Ranger which is extremely popular appeals to most potential buyers who evaluate it against a few competitors.
Powered by a 154kW 2,0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine with 500Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission helps to deliver surprising and efficient performance. Impressive torque output of 500Nm ensures responsive acceleration whether you’re navigating city streets or tackling challenging terrains.
The 4×4 capability is excellent, making it a popular choice for buyers who crave off-road adventures. The Terrain Management System allows drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance to various conditions, such as mud, sand, or snow. The inclusion of a locking rear differential enhances traction, guarantees composure in demanding off-road scenarios.
A robust and modern exterior exudes a sense of strength and durability with a commanding presence on the road. The XLT trim level makes it an appealing choice with both style and substance.
Interiors are a comfortable, well-designed space with upmarket materials and supportive seating. The second and third-row seats can be folded to create a generous cargo space.
Technologically, the Everest is well-equipped with a range of features designed to enhance both convenience and safety. The infotainment system is intuitive and supports features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing seamless connectivity for smartphones. Advanced safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking, contribute to an overall sense of security for the driver and passengers.
I think from a purpose-built perspective the Ford Everest is great and excels in providing performance, versatility, and comfort. It’s an SUV designed to tackle a variety of terrains while maintaining a refined and comfortable interior for everyday use.
Pricing of R833 000 includes a 6-year/90 000km Service Plan.
