Meet Dominika Leskow-Czyżewska, one of many behind the EUMETSAT Polar System – Second Generation mission.
Following the recent launch of the first of the EUMETSAT Polar System – Second Generation (EPS-SG) satellites, we’re shining a spotlight on some of the experts who are making this mission happen.
Early in her bachelor’s degree at the University of Warsaw, Dominika Leskow-Czyżewska took a class that changed the course of her studies. Uncertain about whether to pursue seismology or atmospheric physics, she was motivated by the professor of her class on clouds and turbulence, who runs a Polish-language portal debunking climate change misinformation.
“At that time, the discussion about climate change was getting more intense,” said Leskow-Czyżewska. “And there was also quite some pushback from climate change deniers. As a young person, I was thinking that my future depends on what happens with the climate. I thought I could learn about climate change first and then maybe, at some point, I might be able to do something about it.”
Now, as Atmospheric Composition Applications Expert, Leskow-Czyżewska is contributing to a better understanding of the composition of the atmosphere through supporting users in working with EUMETSAT data. From running training courses that help young researchers better use atmospheric data to helping users one-on-one, Leskow-Czyżewska is busy supporting the people who use the data on a day-to-day basis.
