Celebrating 50 Years of LGBTQ+ Progress at Silicon Valley Pride Parade and Festival.

By Nina Singh-Hudson

This weekend, Silicon Valley gears up to celebrate half a century of Pride, with events that promise vibrancy, recognition, and a moving testament to LGBTQ+ progress over the years. An announcement from VTA indicates that “Unstoppable: 50 Years of Love, Legacy & Liberation” will be the theme for the 50th Anniversary Silicon Valley Pride Parade and Festival, slated for August 30–31, in downtown San José. The planned festivities include a night festival, a parade, and a day festival at Plaza de César Chávez Park.

Headlining the Night Festival on Saturday is Snow Tha Product, a Latin GRAMMY Award-nominated artist and San José native, symbolizing not just the enduring spirit of the local community but also the expansive reach of Pride to encompass diverse voices. According to details from VTA’s blog, the parade on Sunday will feature a “specially wrapped Pride bus,” showcasing support for the LGBTQ+ community and VTA’s employees.

Following the parade, the celebration continues at the Day Festival with the Season 17 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Onya Nurve, expected to headline. By offering an array of food, performances, and experiences, the event, as described on VTA’s website, reflects on 50 years of achievements and the ongoing dedication to LGBTQ+ rights. Festivalgoers can easily reach the heart of the celebration via VTA’s transit options, including Blue or Green Light Rail Lines, or bus routes 22, 23, 64A, 64B, 66, 68, 72, 73, Rapid 500, 522, or 523, with additional trip assistance available through VTA Customer Service and the Transit App.
