Colman Domingo strips down & opens up about coming out

Colman Domingo is baring more than his body for Men’s Health UK.

By Johnny Lopez

The 56-year-old actor lands the cover of the fitness magazine’s June 2026 issue and poses in a series of body-baring photos lensed by photographer Chris Floyd. However, it’s the accompanying interview that reveals the most about the Oscar-nominated star.

With his trademark deep bass voice and commanding stature, it’s hard to believe Domingo didn’t always walk confidently grabbing the full attention of whatever room he entered.

But in Daniel Davies’ interview, we quickly learn how young Colman was a shy, “very skinny,” “very awkward” introvert, had a lisp and went by his middle name Jason. Jason Domingo? Doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Coming out in his early 20s

Though he hadn’t fully bodied being Colman, part of that would start coming together as he began to step into his truth in his early 20s.

The Euphoria star explained how he first came out to his older brother in the early ’90s after his sibling had taken him to a strip club. That’ll do it!

“I told him that I was gay. He looked at me and was just like, ‘What?’ He just couldn’t believe it,” Domingo told Men’s Health UK. “Eventually, he said, ‘I don’t care, man. I love you anyway.’”

He’d go through a wilder experience after his older sister got word that Domingo had opened up to their brother.

“She was pissed off. I said, ‘Look, yes, it was really hard for me to tell him.’ She said, ‘No, no, no. Why didn’t you tell me first?’ She was pissed off because she didn’t get the information first,” he shared while laughing.

Proving what a close-knit family he had, both his mother and stepfather had a close to perfect reaction when they received the news. “You’re a good boy and there’s nothing you can tell me that would make me stop loving you,” his stepfather said, according to Domingo.

It’s that type of family support that is crucial as one is coming out and navigating finally accepting who you are. And it can play a major part in developing your self esteem and no doubt was vital in helping Domingo become the powerhouse he is today.

The fitness regimen

Now as far as keeping his body right, (it is Men’s Health, remember?) Domingo laid out some of his routine.

Admitting that he considered getting help to maintain his physique once he entered his 50s, Domingo had his testosterone checked as many do who are contemplating TRT (testosterone replacement therapy).

However, the results shocked him.

“I went to a doctor to see if I would qualify for or need more testosterone,” Domingo told the outlet, “and he told me my testosterone levels were as high as they were when I was 16.” The man is virile!

Not needing that “extra” boost, Domingo has worked to keep toned the natural way –by putting in the work in the gym.

But as far as working out, he concentrates on cardio and trains with a fitness studo that specializes in people over 50.

Baring any future superhero roles, Domingo is not interested in gaining size and getting all jacked. Instead, he’s focused on staying slender and limber for a very important reason.

“For the fashion world that I’m a part of, I need to look good in clothes,” he said. “Because I’m 6ft 2in and 183 lbs, and I can wear sample sizes, so I need to stay that way.”

And that’s why he’s the reigning fashion king!
