Thursday, January 27 – UBS today announced that it scored 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index (“CEI”).

The CEI is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the 18th consecutive year UBS has been recognized as one of the Best Places to work for LGBTQ+ Equality.

The 2022 CEI highlights 1,271 US-based companies that are promoting LGBTQ+ friendly workplace policies in the US, with 56% of those companies helping advance LGBTQ+ inclusion in workplaces globally.

“At UBS, we are committed to fostering a culture of openness and creating space for all of our colleagues to be their authentic selves at work,” said Tom Naratil, President UBS Americas and Co-President UBS Global Wealth Management. “It’s an honor to be included on the Corporate Equality Index for the 18th consecutive year, and we’re grateful to be recognized for the hard work and dedication to build and maintain an inclusive environment for our LGBTQ+ colleagues.”

In 2002, the first year of the CEI, only 13 companies achieved a top-score of 100%, demonstrating the incredible impact the index has had on businesses world-wide over its 20-year history. This year, the ratings show growth across every measurement category, from the adoption of inclusive non-discrimination policies to equitable healthcare benefits for transgender employees.

“UBS Pride Americas is pleased that our firm continues to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Lisa Astorino and Jon Flaute, Co-Chairs of UBS Pride Americas, the firm’s LGBTQ+ focused employee network. “Together with UBS, we are creating an open, equal and welcoming environment for our LGBTQ+ community and allies through our network initiatives, including allyship training for our senior leaders, along with expanded partnerships with consulting firms and nonprofit organizations.”

“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere. Congratulations to UBS for achieving the title of Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality and working to advance inclusion in the workplace.”

The CEI rates employers providing these protections to over 20 million US workers and an additional 18 million internationally. Companies rated in the CEI include Fortune 500 businesses, American Lawyer’s top 200 US law firms, and hundreds of publicly and privately held mid-to large-cap businesses. The rating is based on four pillars of essential criteria: non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility.
